On behalf of LAWASIA, The Friends of LAWASIA Association in Japan, the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, the China Law Society and the Korean Bar Association, we welcome you to the Sports Law Symposium scheduled to be held in Tokyo."Sports law" encompasses various areas of law, from likeness rights of individual athletes to trademark, copyright, TV broadcast and other commercial rights and arbitration, and has been attracting increasing attention with the ever growing prominence and popularity of international sporting events, such as the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games.
Given the forthcoming Summer Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, this conference is timely in bringing together participants from the legal and business communities from the Asia-Pacific and beyond to discuss legal issues and implications in the field of sports law and to expand the role of legal professionals serving the sports industry.
